Your wish is my command.

What if we all had a genie that would listen to our wish and grant it to us?
Well something similar is what we intend that our AI systems do in the future.
The first non trivial step to achieve this is understanding the intent of a speaker in a text, where figuratively we have the users wish/intent as a command.
Let us take this scenario where someone is tweeting their wish on twitter.
"It is raining outside and I am in the mood to have some delicious pasta."
What if immediately I get a list of amazing offers or discounts on pasta from nearby restaurants?
Can this be considered as "my wish became a command" ?
Well this is intention detection. Lot of amazing NLP experts analyze millions of tweets to find such a person. These people are considered as leads by marketing folks. So we can say that intention detection can be helpful in lead generation.
Pioneers in solving this problem are companies like crux.ly, needtagger, socedo.
Please do explore these tools. They do some really cool nlp stuff.

Introduction.

Hi to all my readers.
This post is dedicated to all the readers of my blog.
Thank you for visiting.
The name of my blog , "vannakam ulagam" means "hello world" in Tamil language.
Any programmer would have first learned to print these letters through a programming language.
I want this blog to be like a "hello world" program in the field of nlp.
I hope this blog brings interest in natural language processing in all of you.
